Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Alex Blakely and I am a detective mystery author. For close to three decades, I have worked in the financial world and traveled to different parts of the world. During one of those trips, a character for a story started forming in my mind. Now I had never written a novel and frankly wasn’t sure it was something to do, but this character rested in the back of my imagination, coming out every now and again as I grew new insights into who she would become.
After letting the idea simmer in the back of my mind for over ten years, I plotted out the first novel in the series, which was to be entitled Hot Iron. After several months of research, I put words on paper and after several months and many rounds of editing; the book was born.
From there, I hired a talented editor with years in the publishing world to help me bring the book further than where it was when I handed it to them. I brought in a cover designer who had designed covers for some well know crime authors and a few other resources and the book was published.
I established Kinclond Publishing to act as a main hub to hold the rights to all of my books.
After publishing Hot Iron, it occurred to me I should write a shorter story, a novella to introduce the public to my protagonist, Cache Iron. I went back to a short story, a few sentences long in Hot Iron, and created Cold Iron from it, which takes place two years before Hot Iron. I ended up making Hot Iron book number 2 in the series and Cold Iron book number 1.
Iron Proof came next and now I am working on Charged Iron and Candy Coated Iron. As I go through by daily travels, I note the things around me which spurn new ideas for future books. I live in Ontario, Canada with my family, just west of the City of Toronto. I split my time between working in Finance and writing mystery novels. In my spare time, I like to read, play video games, watch movies with my family and do the yardwork. Oh yes, the yardwork. I can hear a lawnmower in the distance now.
I have always been a lover of the detective novel. Whether it was Sherlock Holmes, Sam Spade, Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple, a great who dunnit style story is what I have been drawn to. I read Sue Grafton, Robert Galbraith, James Patterson and a host of others, anyone who, for me, crafts a great detective novel. Slowly putting out the clues, allowing me to take a guess at who the culprit is.
I hope to achieve this with my books and I hope you take this adventure with me and enjoy the route we will travel.
Alex
